Oliver

Oliver is home to around 5000 people, and lies half an hour south of Penticton. Boasting a charming downtown and plenty of amenities, it’s popular with families and retirees. The high-desert climate makes Oliver perfect for agriculture, and its stretch of Highway 97 is lined with impressive fruit stands and thriving orchards and vineyards. It’s a much-visited destination for summer tourism, and falls comfortably within the Penticton commuter belt.

The welcoming small-town feel is evident in Oliver’s historic architecture, busy community centre, well-maintained public parks and trails, and lovely public beach at Tuc-el-Nuit Lake. Unique shops and casual eateries line the bustling main street, and the town hosts several popular festivals throughout the year. Families appreciate the modern, innovative schools and variety of extracurricular activities. Active residents can take advantage of the countless hiking and biking opportunities (for all skill levels), and easy access to great skiing at Apex and Mt. Baldy. Amenities such as banks, a hospital, an ice arena, an outdoor pool, and even a small municipal airport, help Oliver to thrive.

Housing here is varied. Most residents live in established neighbourhoods near the centre of town, where the streets are lined with mid-century houses on tidy, sunny lots. Newer multi-unit homes and several retirement developments are in town, as well. Further out (but still convenient to everything!), you’ll find working agricultural properties with comfortable farmhouses, log cabins on wooded lots, and some beautiful lakefront properties near Gallagher and Tuc-el-Nuit lakes.

Oliver is known as the “Wine Capital of Canada”, and it has plenty to brag about! Located at the top of the newly-designated Golden Mile wine region, Oliver boasts an extraordinary number of world-class wineries, from tiny, boutique operations to grand estates. Many of them offer excellent restaurants, too.

It’s easy to raise a glass to the good life in Oliver! Small, but perfectly-formed, it has much to offer everyone lucky enough to call it home.
