Keremeos

Known as the "Fruit Stand Capital of Canada," Keremeos (population 1,761) is nestled along the Similkameen River beneath the prominent K Mountain. The village is renowned for its abundant fruit stands, offering a variety of fresh, locally grown produce. Visitors can explore the historic Grist Mill and Gardens, Western Canada's only working waterwheel-powered flour mill, which hosts events and provides insight into the area's heritage. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy tubing, canoeing, or kayaking on the Similkameen River, as well as hiking in nearby Cathedral Provincial Park. Keremeos also serves as a gateway to the Ashnola recreation area.

Cawston

Just east of Keremeos lies Cawston (population 1,080), celebrated as the "Organic Farming Capital of Canada." Approximately 40% of its farms are certified organic, producing a wide range of fruits and vegetables. The community features farm gate markets, bistros, and farm-to-table restaurants set amidst orchards and vineyards. Wine enthusiasts can visit over 18 local wineries, cideries, and a craft distillery. The diverse landscape offers hiking trails that traverse terrains from desert-like areas with cacti and sagebrush to lush sub-alpine meadows.
